FIRE AT THE SEASIDE.
COTTAGE DESTROYED. Fire totally destroyed a fiverOomed cottage on the river-fore-shore at the. local seaside at an early hour yesterday morning. The house, which belongs to Mr S. Evans, of Hawke’s Bay, was unoccupied at the time and was not furnished. The cause of the outbreak is a mystery. In conversation with our representative, Mr A. Steer, whose store is not far from the scene of the fire, stated that he was roused about 2.30 a.m. yesterday but the fire then Iliad a good hold and it was impossible to do anything to save the building. Until some months ago the dwelling was occupied by Mrs Wade.
It is understood that the building is covered by insurance, but the amount is not yet available.
