THE HEMP MARKET.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE,
The High Commissioner’s cable, dated the 15th inst., reads:—“Hemp Manila market dull but closed steadier, with ‘J’ grade, OctoberNoyember shipments sold at £42 15s and October-December shipments at £42 10/-. The output from the Ist January to the 30th September was 974,000 bales, against 984,000 bales for the same period last year. The stocks in Manila at the 30th September were 158,000 bales as aagainst 147,000 bales for the same period last year and in Great Britain 4,814 bales against 9,527. The Sisal market is dull but small business has been done in OctoberDecember shipments at No. 1, £36 10s to £37.' In the New Zealand market small business continues in October-December shipments of fair, at £33 10s, and common at £32 10s. Buyers quote high points at £35, but sellers are asking £35 10s to £35 155.”
