ADVANTAGES OF TOPDRESSING.
The country at the present time in the Oroua Downs district is looking splendid. Feed has come away very well, and dairy cows are in the'best of condition. Top-dressing has been liberally indulged in, and the wonderful benefits to be derived from the use of superphosphate arc at once apparent in the fiush of feed and the succulent appearance of the pastures. From all appearances, and from the financial results already obtained, the top-dressing of land in the Oroua Downs district will not only result in increased production, but will make the returns from that land equal to that of the more heavily priced parts of the country. As an example of topdressing and herd-testing, it may be stated that the dairy herd belong to Mr F. C. Raikes averaged a return of 51 lbs. of butter-fat per cow for the month of September. This herd is not a pedigree one, but has been tested for the past two years by the officers of the local Herd Testing Association, and the returns for last month must surely constitute a recoid foi any district.
