CYCLE ROAD RACE.

TWO LOCAL COMPETITORS,

Much local interest was evinced in the Palmerston North-'Wellington cycle road race to-day and Main Street was lined with spectators to witness the competitors pass through Foxton this morning. The two local riders, C. Newson and G. Aldridge left on the limit mark (50 minutes) and showed no signs of fatigue after covering the 25 miles from Palmerston North against a head wind. They arrived here at 11 p.in., taking two hours to cover the distance. The other competitors came in the following order: — 10. 58 a.m.: Prendergast, Wright, Crichton, James and Hedgeland.

10.59 a.m.: Von Arch. 11 a.m.: Moorehouse, Evans and Stalker. 11.1 a.m.: Chenot and Coachman. 11.3 a.m.: Barber, Edwards and Fleeltoub.

11.5 a.m.: South and T. Kilpatrick.

11.9 a.m.: Kenny, Chammen and H. G. Kilpatrick.

11.12 a.m.: Prowse and Hewitt. 11.15 a.m.,: Casey, Robinson, Halley, Blakeway and Evans. 11.20 a.m.: Tate, Cooksley, Pederson and Farmer.

11.25 a.m.: Toomer, Crichton, Grose, Hollyman, Gane and Percival.

11.35 a.m.: Morris. 11.45 a.m.: McFedries.

A puncture, broken chain and cramp were responsible for Sandbrook, Tiffett and Ross dropping out before reaching Foxton. It was impossible to record the numbers of some of the riders, as they were covered. Webber, who was riding well, picked up ten minutes on the run down to Foxton.

Chenot, until recently a local rider, but now of Wellington, sustained a spill before reaching Foxton, but was riding easily when passing through the town. Recently he was beaten by half a wheel in a fifty mile raca by Webber. It is anticipated that the first man to cross the tape at Wellington will reach the Basin Reserve at about 4 p.m. James was first in to Levin, with Aldridge and Newson in the bunch lying eighth. Webber was first into Otaki, with Oakley five minutes behind. Oakley then looked every bit a winner. Grose w r as well up.
