YOUNG MAN’S INFATUATION. EMPLOYERS ROBBED. Auckland, September 29. Infatuated by a youn woman whom he met on board ship while comitnfc out from John George Dunnett, aged 29, robbed his employers of silk and other finery in order that his companion might be well dressed. As a sequel he was arraigned af the Police Court this morning upon seven charges of theft of frocks, furs, silk stockings, coats, erepe-de-chine, and a handbag, of a total value of £43 16s lid from a warehouse. Dunnett pleaded guilty to all the charges. Accused, said Chief Detective Cummings, arrived at Auckland on May 3 last by the Mataroa from England. He aftrewards went to Dunedin and later secured employment with a firm at Auckland as checker. In consequence of his ability, he was promoted to salesman, and had continued in that capacity from August 15 until September 5. He said that on the voyage out from England he became friendly with a young woman passenger. The friendliness turned to infatuation and he explained that he stole the goods in order that she might be well dressed. The Magistrate (Mr. F. K. Hunt) remanded accused for sentence until Saturday morning, when a report will then be received from the Probation Officer.
