BILLIARD TOURNAMENT.

FIRE POLICE v. FIRE BRIGADE,

Last evening members of the local fire police met representatives of the local fire brigade in a billiard tournament at the Station. The tournament was the first £>f a series for the Clerke Cup, donated by Mr. A. H. Clerke,' of Wellington, and a m,ember of the Foxton Fire Board. The games resulted in a win for the brigade by a godd margin, the scores being as follows; the fire police being mentioned first in each instance: —

F. Woods 100, v. Superintendent J. H. Downes 64. G. F. Smith 60 v. Deputy Superintendent F. Lockwood 100.

M. E. Perreau 29, v. C. McCartney 100. R. Rangiheuea 89, v. A. Walls 100.

D. Christie 30, v. P. Little 100. W. Trueman 54, v. R. Jardines 100.

Total: Fire Police 362, Fire Brigade 564. At the conclusion of the tournament, Mr. F. Woods, (Captain of the Fire Police), handed over the Clerke Cup to the Brigade and congratulated them on their win. He also thanked the Brigade for its hospitality and hoped that evening would prove the forerunner of many more.

Mr. J. H. Downes (Superintendent), said it had been a pleasure for the brigade to entertain the fire police and he hoped that they would meet on many more occasions.

Mr. M. E. Perreau, member of the Fire Police and Board, said that Mr. Clerke had donated the cup for competition between the fire police and the brigademen with-the object of bringing these two bodies into closer touch with each other and from the excellent social gathering that evening, it was evident that the object of the trophy had already had the desired effect. They would look forward to again meeting the Brigade at billiards at an ear ly date when they hoped to be able to reverse the present state of affairs.

Supper was then handed round by the brigade, which brought a close to an excellent social evening.
