BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held last evening. Reports were read and dealt with as follows: ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported that during the past month the road staff had been engaged on the following works: —Patching ruts, Avenue Road, Cook, Coley, Futter and Robinson Streets; deepening drain between Johnston and Hillary Streets, erecting motorists’ notice boards in Main Streets, carting material for gas and waterworks departments; cleaning and grading footpath Harbour Street; digging water channel south side of Cook Street, carting metal and chips to yard and Union and Robinson Streets for asphalt works. —Adopted. WATERWORKS REPORT. The waterworks foreman reported that during the month one of the artesian pipes was repaired, septic and receiving tanks tanks cleaned out, one blocked sewer cleaned out, and the excavation made for water main to the swimming baths. Pumping Station Report.—During the month 1,275,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 31 amps. —Adopted. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From the Plunket Society requesting a donation.—£2 2s Od granted. From the Manawatu Shipping Co., making application for use of the Council hose for washing down river bank at Huia Mill—Granted. From Mrs. 11. Evans, Duncan Street, enclosing account for 10/incurred in cleaning out obstructed sewer, asking the Council to pay same. —No responsibility accepted. From the Beautifying Society, asking for a grant towards paying the caretaker’s salary. —£25 donated.
From the Foxton Cricket Club, making application to lay down a concreto cricket pitch on Easton Park. —Permission granted, the location of the pitch to be fixed by the Reserves Committee. GENERAL.
Cr. Spring mentioned that traffic to and from Whittaker Street had “cut” both the corners with the result that where the footpath should be, was, in wet weather, waterlogged and a great inconvenience to pedestrains. The matter is to receive the attention of the road foreman. It was decided to erect a concrete water-trough at the lower end of Wharf Street and to remove the old trough from the Triangle.
