COAL FOR MANAWATU VIA FOXTON.

MR. NASH’S PLEA. A plea that something should be done to ship coal through Foxton was made by Mr. J. A. Nash in the House yesterday. For some years, said Mr. Nash, coal for Manawatu was sent via Foxton, but since the wharf had been taken over by the Harbour Board a great deal of coal had not gone through that port. He asked that the Minister of Mines should do something in the matter to see if more coal could not be put through Foxton. ! The trade of the port was not very good and it was very evident that unless something was done a fate would have to be levied to meet loans of about £16,000.
