PILLION RIDER KILLED.
Christchurch, August 31. Early yesterday morning Alexander Edmond Forbes, 20 years of age, residing at 211, Opawa road, died in Christchurch Hospital from injuries received through a tire of a motor-cycle bursting while he was pillion-riding. Another young man named W. F. Melding was riding the motor-cycle, carrying Forbes behind. A motorlorry driven by Ivan Hadfield approached, and in endeavouring to avoid a collision swerved and swung round. The back tire of the cycle burst, throwing Forbes beneath the machine. He was taken to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
