THE LIFE OF PARLIAMENT.
1 SHOULD IT BE EXTENDED? An extension in the term of Parliament from three to live years was advocated by the Postmaster-Gen-eral (Hon. W. Nosworthy) in the House of Representatives yesterday. The Minister said that members talked of the need for economy, but where was the economy in the numerous elections held now for Parliament, and the local bodies, tjiat were going on almost continuously? There was a vast expenditure going on for very little result. Economy should start with the Parliapient itself by instituting a five years’ term, and then they should work downwards in- all directions where money could be saved. Mr. M. J. Savage (Auckland Wjest), who also referred to the matter, expressed opposition to the Minister’s suggested extension.
