LATE HON. R. F. BOLLARD.
FUNERAL .CEREMONIES. Wellington, August 27. The Hon. R. F. Bollard’s funeral took place this morning. The attendance was very large, including of the Legislature, representatives of local bodies of both Wellington and other parts of the Dominion, and also various spotting associations with which Mr. Bollard had been brought 'n contact as Minister of Internal Affairs. The Masonic craft also attended. The service at St. Paul’s pro-Ca-thedral was conducted by Bishop Sprott and Archdeacon A. M. Johnson. After the service the cortege left for Karori Cemetery, preceded by a large P. and T. Department lorry loaded with wreaths. Archdeacon Johnson officiated at the graveside. The pall-bearers were members of the political parties in the House of Representatives and representatives of the Masonic craft. THE RAGLAN SEAT. The death of the Hon. R. F. Bollard makes a by-election necessary for the Raglan seat in the House of Representatives, and already interest is being manifest as to who will be likely to be the late member’s successor. Several names are mentioned of men suitable and worthy to follow in Mr. Bollard’s footsteps, and principal among those discussed in political circles is that of Mr. A. H. Waring, a fanner residing at Taupiri. Mr. Waring is widely known throughout the Raglan and Waikato districts as a close friend and keen supporter of the Reform Party, and in many quarters he has for a long time been looked upon as the inspiring force in the political career of the late member. It is felt in many quarters that if Mr. Waring could be persuaded to stand for the vacant seat his chances of success in the by-election would be excellent. THE CABINET VACANCY. There are several likely candidates for Ministerial rank to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. Bollard, but should it be decided to fill the vacancy by a South Island member the choice will probably rest between Messrs D. Jones (Ellesmere), A. Hamilton (Wallace), andE. P. L ee(Oamaru). If the new Minister is to be a North Islander, the chances of Mr. F. F. Hockley (Rotorua), who is Chairman of Committees, cannot be discounted.
