PERSONAL.

Mr. F. A. Mason, headmaster of the local District High School, entered ,jthe ‘hospital yesterday, to undergo an operation for appendicitis.

Feeling tributes to the worth of their late colleague Hon. R. F. Bollard, were paid by the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates), the Postmaster-General (Hon. W. Nosworthy), and the Minister of Labour (Hon. G. J. Anderson). The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. H. S. Holland) and the Leader of the Nationalist Party (Mr. G. W. Forbes) also voiced expressions of regret. Mr. Justice Stringer will shortly reach the age fixed for the retirement of Supreme Court Judges. That age is 72 years, and His Honour will reach it on November 4, next. In view of the pressure of work, however, it will cause no surprise if His Honour is asked to continue his duties for a time. Mr. •Justice Stringer was appointed Judge in Christchurch early in 1914, and has filled the office with distinction and to the great satisfaction of those with whom he has been associated. Apart from the question of his retirement from the B ench, he will continue to preside as chairman of the War Pensions Appeal Board.
