FOXTON BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING,

The annual meeting of the Foxton Beautifying Society was held in Ross’s Rooms on Thursday evening, presided over by the President (Mr. M. E. Perreau). Also present were: Messrs Peryman, D. Christie, J. K. Hornblow, 11. Osborne and W. Trueman. REPORT AND (BALANCE-SHEET. The President, submitted the annual report and balance-sheet which read as follows: During the past year we have not found it necessary to meet very often, as no new work has been undertaken, but the work that has been done by the Society has been well maintained. The long wanted footpath in front of Ihakara Gardens has now been completed by • the Council. The beauty spot by the Courthouse has been well cared for, and is highly commented on by the public. Ihakara Gardens and Easton Park are well attended to by our caretaker, and the street trees that have been planted by' the Society are making satisfactory progress. Special credit is due to Mr. Newth for the way* in which he has carried out his duties as caretaker, and for the interest he has taken in his work. Mr. Rimmer having left the district, it will be necessary io elect a new secretary, the thanks of the Society are also due to him for his past services, and to the public in general for the care that they have given to the work that has been carried out by this Society. I should like to recommend to (the incoming Committee ,thai an effort be made during the Summer months for equipment of a ‘ children’s playground. Swimming baths are now being erected on Easton Park, and the time will be opportune for the carrying out of this necessary work. In conclusion I would like to thank members and Committee for their support and co-operation in all things pertaining to the advancement of the Society. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit balance of £2O odd. . In speaking to the report, Mr. J. K. Hornblow said the erection of a children’s playground on Easton Park was a very necessary work and he would like to see the Society do something towards this end. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President: Mr. M. E. Perreau; vice-presidents: Mrs. F. Robinson and Mr. D. Christie; committee: Mesdames Perreau, McMurray, Moore, Barr, P. Easton, and Peryman and Messrs Peryman, JVfdson, H. Osborne, J. K. Hornblow, W. H. Nicholas and W. Trueman; secretary : Mr. R. Hornblow; auditor: Mr. P. Jackson. GENERAL. Mr. Christie reported that the Borough Council desired to round off the corner of the shrubbery of the drive into Easton Park to allow a curve to the swimming baths. The matter was left in the hands of the President, Mr. Trueman and the caretaker. It was decided that the President and secretary be empowered to operate on the Society’s finances. It was resolved that an application be made to the Borough Council for a contribution towards the caretaker’s salary. It was resolved to forward the caretaker a letter of appreciation of his services.

Mr. Osborne reported that Railway sections at the south end of Main Street were covered with noxious weeds and were an eyesore to the town. He was of opinion that the Department should be approached and asked to clean up these sections.

It was decided to refer the matter to the Department.

Accounts amounting to £3 Is 9d were passed for payment. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
