NASH CUP.

WON BY WERAROA JUNIORS,

The Foxton Juniors met Weraroa at Otaki on Saturday in the final for the Nash Cup. In, the previous matches Foxton defeated Miranui and Shannon defeated Weraroa, but the latter appealed against Shannon’s win on the ground that the latter team included an outside club player. The appeal was upheld and Weraroa and Foxton fought out the final, 'the game resulting in a win for Weraroa by 13 points to 3. When the teams arrived on the ground one goal post was down and the ground was not marked out. . The teams were very evenly matched and for, three-parts of the game, Foxton were attacking in Weraroa’s territory, but failed to drive home their movements, and lagged behind when Weraroa opened up the game. The first spell was all in favour of Foxton. Spence and Hornblow .dribbled through within a few feet at the 'corner and failing to handle the leather missed an apparent easy score. Williams, Ross and Stevenson worked play back and Williams securing from a clever dummying run by Huff crossed, with a lead of three points. Foxton made renewed efforts, but faulty handling let Weraroa. through and offside play gave Broughton an opportunity to even up the score, but the kick fell short and Ross, Stevenson and Broad transferred play back to Weraroa -territory. Scott was prominent in a dash for the line, but his transfer was mulled and Weraroa cleared and gained safety through Foxton’s full balk failing to return. In the second spell Foxton displayed lack of condition. After some ragged play in centre Weraroa opened up the game and J. 'Broughton crossed and Tantrum added the major points—Weraroa s—Foxton5 —Foxton 3. Foxton renewed the attack and Broad and >Huff crossed and each handled the ball but a try was not allowed and a, scrum five yards out was formed and again through mishandling .Foxton failed to take advantage of the opportunity and a mark on the line got Weraroa out of a dangerous position. Weraroa rushed the play to Foxton territory, and Royal was penalised for (disk! e which enabled Broughton to send the oval over the uprights. Weraroa B—Foxton8 —Foxton 37 Again Foxton with a combined rush attacked but offside play spoilt the effort and Weraroa again opened the play and Roach broke away and crossed in a good position. Weraroa 13 —'Foxton 3. From this out the play was ragged and the game ended in the centre. Mr. Bevan ably controlled the game, and with the exception of one incident, gave every, satisfaction. The game was played in good spirit and the winners were heartily congratulated and cheered by the losers.
