BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING

The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held last evening. Reports were read and dealt with as follows: WATERWORK REPORT. The waterworks foreman reported that during the month blocked sewers in Coley and Duncan Streets had been cleaned out. The blockage in Duncan Street was due to a piece of wood and that in Coley Street to sand and paper. Trees planted in Victoria Park last year have been dug around and attended to generally and by-law cases, maintenance work, etc., carried out. The intake to the septic tank is very nearly blocked up and will have to be opened up from inside the storage tank t'o be eleanel out. This work will be undertaken as soon as men can be obtained to do the work. Pumping Station Report.—During the month 1,085,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 31 amps.—Adopted.

GAS MANAGER’S REPORT. The gas manager reported that .during the month one new service one gas cooker, and one gas fire had been installed. One service was renewed and a good number of pipes and services cleaned out. The following shows the number of apparati used in the consumption of gas locally:—Cookers: 117, grillers: 38; gas ranges: 141; caliphonts: 10; gas fires: 10; radiators: 5; coppers: 1; engines: 6; blowpipes: 2; linotypes : 1. —Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT.

The road foreman reported that during the month the road staff had been engaged on the following works:—

Forming water channel on the north side of Cook Street, carting metal and patching ruts in Duncan, Purcell, Whyte, and Hall Streets., and Moutoa Road, carting rubbish to depot from Town Hall; diggingdrain to let water off Moutoa Road, mowing and cleaning Triangle and general maintenance. Duncan and Purcell Streets and the Sandon and Moutoa Roads have also been trimmed up with the grader.—Adopted. GENERAL. A letter was received from Mr R. Edwards re the swimming baths. — Received. On the recommendation of Crs. Rand and Walker it was decided to instruct the foreman to grade up Wharf St. footpath.
