DOMINION’S POPULATION.
ESTIMATE AT END OF JUNE,
A gazette return shows the population of the Dominion, with its dependencies and Samoa, to be estimated at the end of June as 1,494,406, comprising 763,812 males and 730,594 females. The total for the North Island is 918,154 and for the South Island 519,013. Maoris number 64,380.
For the first time in many years, a slight decrease of population occurred during the quarter ended June 30, to the extent of 813 persons.
