“GOING CROOKED.” The glamour and mystery of the historic Los Angeles Chinatown together with a cleverly worked out plot andj an exceptional cast goes to make “Going Crooked,” the Fox Films production coming to the Town Hall on Friday, one of the most fascinating crook comedydramas ever filmed. The story revolves about the activities of a gang of jewel thieves, their one fatal slip, the love of a beautiful adventuress for the young district attorney who goes crooked to prove his love for her —and the adventures of a stolid detective w r ho bungles the case. There are thrills, suspense. a real love story, plenty of comedy and a smashing climax at the end. Bessie Love and Oscar Shaw are easti in the leading roles. Gustav Von Seyffertifz plays the crafty villain, the leader of the jewel thieves. Leslie Fenton has a sympathetic role as the young boy who is wrongfully accused, and condemned to death for the murder of a prominent jewel merchant. With “Non-Stop Bride” (comedy) and News. The picture, “The Magician,” from W. Somerset Maughan’s novel of the) same name, will head Saturday’s list. It is a powerful and unusual drama of a magician’s hypnotic power over a beautiful girl. The big special, “Three Bad Men,” will be seen on Monday next. II is described as the equal of the same producer’s “The Iron Horse.”
