AN AUCKLAND CASE

Auckland, August 1

In the Police Court to-day, Thomas Dawson Smith, aged Glj. a company manager, pleaded guilty to a charge of bigamy and was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court. Ho admitted that ho was married at. Birkenhead, England, where lie had a good business, 42 years ago, also that he married a widow at Auckland in 1924. He had a family of seven children, and lived happily in England with the family for 21 years. Then, owing to his wife’s changed attitude, he emigrated in 1912. At a church bazaar he met the widow, whom he subsequently assisted in her business and, foi_pure (business reasons and to prevent people talking, he married her.
