DOMINION UNEMPLOYMENT.
DISCUSSION IN THE HOUSE. Wellington, July When the House of Representatives met this afternoon, Mr. P. Fraser, the Labour member for Wellington Central, gave notice of his intention to introduce the Right to Work Bill. Mr. W. E. Parry (Auckland Central) asked if the Government thought it was doing all that could be done to meet the unemployment position. Mr. Parry quoted a case, reported from Auckland of two men arrested in such a famished condition that they had to be remanded in order that they could receive some nourishing food. They had walked the length of the North Island and had not been able to obtain work. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. 'J. G. Coates) replied that an officer of his own Department was being •detained to act in conjunction with the Labour Department and other organisations ■ concerned to collate all ascertainable particulars of unemployment, which it was recognised, was very serious. By this means close touch could be kept with the position. There had been so many varying accounts coming from different quarters that it was difficult to arrive at a true appreciation of the real condition. Every effort would be made to meet the needs of all the men who were out of work, no matter where or in what circumstances they were.
