TRAGIC DEATH OF COOK STREET RESIDENT.
PATHETIC CIRCUMSTANCES
The death occurred under somewhat tragic circumstances at 6.55 o’clock this morning of Mr. John Henry Kerrison, a fruit-hawker aged 44 years, residing on the corner of Cook and Hillary Streets. Deceased had been confined to his bed for the past week with a cold and this morning his two sons, William, aged nine and George, aged five, who were sleeping with their father, were startled by him falling out of bed. On calling out to him and getting no reply, one of the boys ran over to Mr 11. Leaver’s residence next door, and informed him that there was something the matter with their father. Mr. Leaver, on proceeding to the bedroom, found Kerrison dead , and immediately communicated with the doctor and police. Questioned this morning, the little boys said that their father had been ill in bed all the week with a cold, and the elder boy had been looking after him. He had received no medical attention, but had signified his intention of getting up on Tuesday to hawk fruit. Deceased came to Foxton about nine months ago from Pahiatua, where he has two brothers, Messrs A. and T. Kerrison and two (married sisters, Mesdames P. J.Matthews and L. Hughes. Nurse Kerrison, of Gisborne, and Mrs J. Salmons, of Coley Street, are also sisters of deceased. His father resides in Christchurch, and his mother is in Australia. Deceased also leaves a wife, who for some time had not been residing with deceased. An inquest is to be held.
