TE AUTE RETAINS MO A SCAR CUP. The first Moascar Cup game since 1025 was played at Waipawa on Tuesday afternoon in wintry weather. Rain fell prior to the game and it turned the ground into a quagmire and materially' affected play, which resolved into a dingdong forward battle, wherein the superior weight of the Te Aute forwards was in no small measure responsible for, their retaining the Clip.;
The first spell ended with honours even —5 all. In the second spell Te Aute added another three points, (an unconverted try), the game ending Te Aute B—Palmerston8 —Palmerston High .School 5.
The Manawatu Rugby Council has made a grant of £2OO to the Feilding Borough Council provided the Borough Council erect a stand valued at £SOO, and prepare two football grounds, the Borough Council to give the Rugby Council a lease for the use of the grounds for a period of 21 years, the first three years to be free of rent, thereafter the rental to be £2O per annum. A meeting of all Foxton • Club Juniors will ibe held in the practiceroom at 7 o’clock this evening. The meeting is important and will be followed by a practice. A full attendance is requested. The following will represent Foxton Thirds on Saturday:— Hunt, Smith, Simpson (3), W. McCarthy, Dryder, Anderson, . Davey, Gnpwell, Hartley (2), Dunn, Broad, Pahi and Huff. Bus leaves Wall’s 12 o’clock sharp. All Thirds are requested to attend a practice in the shed to-night, at 7 o’clock sharp. PRIMARY SCHOOLS COMPETITION. FOXTON WIN AUSTIN BANNER. The final match of the Primary Schools competition was played yesterday, Foxton playing Otaki at Otaki. A good crowd turned out to see the match, ' which proved quite interesting to watch. From the kick off Otaki attacked, the visitors being kept in their own twen-ty-five. Otaki could not press home their advantage and the Foxton team transferred' play to neutral territory. " The blue fonvads secured from the line out and Kura sesuring scored a fine try. J. Hirini added the majpr points with a fine kick. Foxton s—Otaki5 —Otaki 0. Foxton continued to have-the best of the game, for Thompson to dribble ' through and picking up neatly, scored his first try. Hirini’s fine attempt just missed the uprights. Foxton B—Otaki 0. The visitors kept up a hot attack, but infringements kept, them from improving the score. The backs persevered with their passing rushes until H. Gardiner, making a fine run, scored under the posts. Hirini converted. Foxton 13—Otaki 0. Half time sounded , without' further score. After the lemons, Otaki attacked determinedly, several good inndivi-, dual efforts being made, but Kura, Hirini and M. Gardner were defending ,too well. The heavy ground proved tiring to both teams, and play .slowed up considerably. B. Gardner, Rickerby, Hoffman and Adams were prominent in rushes but could not score. The Foxton backs combining well, the ball was transferred to H. Gardner who scored right under the posts. Hirini missed an easy kick. Foxton 16, Otaki 0. A fine individual effort by an Otaki player was brought to an abrupt finish by a fine tackle by M. Gardner. Just on time the whole Foxton team set up an attack from which H. Gardner scored his third try. Foxton 19, Otaki 0. After the game both teams were entertained at afternoon tea at the school. Mr Procter .thanked the Otaki people for their hospitality, Mr. Wllniot replying on behalf of Otaki and congratulating Foxton on winning the Austin Baner. Three cheers were given to the Otaki gills for supplying afternoon tea and cheers for Mr F. S. Easton, who kindly supplied fruit for both teams. Foxton School’s record this season is as follows: Played, 8; Avon, 7; drawn, 1; lost, nil; points for, 88; points against, 8; championship points, 15. The following games still remain to be played: — August 6th.: Seven-a-side competition at Levin; August 13th: North v. South Rep. match, at Foxton; August 20th.: Horowhenua Primary School Reps. v. Wellington Primary School Reps., at Levin. At Masterton yesterday, Wairarapa defeated the Maori touring team by 49 points to 11. At Wellington yesterday, the Wellington reps, defeated South Canterbury by a margin of 19 points. The Taranaki Rugby representatives met Hawke’s Bay afi Hastings yesterday, before an attendance of about four thousand. The weather was fine, but the ground was very heavy after the recent rain, consequently the game resulted in a forward struggle and, ended in a draw, each team scoring eight points.
