PROFIT ON LAST MONTH’S WORKING.

Last month, for the first time for a considerable period the Sandon tramway showed a profit on its working, revenue exceeding expenditure by £3 6s Id. Reporting to the monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council on Wednesday, the controlling authority, the tramway manager (Mr. A. K. Drew), stated that the improved position could be attributed to higher rates on metal. Even the railway could not cart for the ptrice that the council had been charging. “The chief items of traffic for the month were: Grain 19-J tons, minerals and manure 280 J toriSj, general merchandise 49i tons, stock, 8 trucks, metal 204 trucks, timber 4280 sup. ft., eggs: 78 crates. Fares amounted to £1 7s 9d. The accounts show a credit balance of £3 6s Id for the month’s working. During last month minor repairs were carried out to the sheds, platforms and sheep yards along the line, and they are now all in good order.”
