The Manawatu Racing Club’s Winter Meeting was concluded on Saturday in cold weather. The totalisator handled £63,395 10s. The total for the three days was £147,923 as against £158,489 10s last year, a decrease of £10,516 10s. Nukumai received a great reception when he returned to the scale after his Winter Hurdles’ win. Results: — Talavera Hurdles:—Kaikahu 1, Potoanui 2, Aberfeldy 3. Time 3 min. 1 sec. Novice Handicap:—Subdivision 1, Ladykiller 2, Cerf 3. Time 1 min. 201 sec. Crofton Handicap:—Anolo 1, Romantic 2, Merle 3. Time 1 min. 381
Winter Hurdles: —Nukumai (W. Bowden), 1, Wharneliffe 2, Perle de Leon 3. Time 4 min. 33 sec.
Oats: — Fairy Herald 1, Master Doon 2, Passionate 3. Time 1 min. 514 sec.
July Steeplechase: —Tuki 1, Zircon 2, Dick 3. Time 5 min. 49 sec. . Onslow Handicap:—Sun Up 1, Oration 2, Delightment 3. Time 1 min. 20 see.
Kia Ora Handicap: —Royal Land 1, Denier 2, Duke. Abbey 3. Time 1 min. 6 sec.
Mr. Wright, the Foxton trainer, was congratulated on all sides on Nukumai’s wonderful performance in completing a treble for the meeting. In the big hurdle race < in spite of his big weight Nukumai did everything right throughout the race bar a bit of a faulty jump at the fence in the straight the first time round.
