METHODIST CHURCH.

The quarterly meeting of the above was held recently at Shannon, when there was a good attendance of officials. Reports on membership and Sunday schools were presented and discussed. The balancesheet for the June quarter was read by Mr. J. ChrystaJl, khe circuit Steward. As w T as only to be expected, with hard times and no special efforts made to raise funds, the receipts were only half those of the previous quarter whilst the expenditure was only a little less than usual. Preliminary arrangements were made for the visit of Rev. A. J. Seamer and his Maori party who are holding meetings at Shannon, Foxton and Oroua Downs.. A resolution of sympathy was accorded to Mr. and Mrs. L. Bullard in connection with Mrs. Bullard’s illness. It was resolved to recommend Conference to alter t(ie name of the circuit to “The Foxton-Shannon Circuit.” The next meeting was fixed for Foxton on Wednesday, October 12th. The Shannon ladies entertained the members of the meeting at supper and were heartily thanked for the same. Two novelties were introduced on Sunday evening last at the Shannon and Foxton churches. At Shannon the congregation, which was a very large one, listened to a service broadcasted by Wellington’s new radio station from the Vivian Street Baptist church. The sermon by Rev. F. E. Harry, and qlso the musical portion of the service, w r as distinctly heard and followed with great interest.

A song, service was held at the Foxton church and much enjoyed. With hymn sheets provided free of cost by Mr. Chas. Davey, of Auckland, a number of well-known hymn were sung by choir and congregation. During an interval a brief address was given on “Singing a new song.” Airs. E. J. Westwood officiated at the organ. It is intended to hold another of these musical services next month.
