PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS.

TO BE READY BY SUMMER. ENGINEER RECOMMENDS DAY LABOUR, At last night’s Borough Council meeting Mr. R, Edwards, Swimming Baths Engineer, submitted modified plans and specifications for^theerection of proposed public swimming baths in Easton Park, with money raised by the public for that purpose. Prior to opening the tenders for the work, Mr. Edwards said that in the event of no tender being acceptable, lie would urge on the council the advisability of carrying out the work by day labour and so aleviate local unemployment. Wfitli a competent foreman under himself, he felt quite confident that the work could be carried out satisfactorily. He was prepared to do the buying for the Council. He felt perfectly certain that the Council could save money by doing the work by day labour. The Council went into committee to consider tenders. Only one was received and after a lengthy dismission it was decided that feeder be accepted and that the Works Committee meet at an early date to consider ways and means of erecting the baths, and to report to the Council if necessary, at a special meeting. The Mayor said that he felt sure the baths would be ready for the coming season. The Council would lose no time in having the work carried out.
