VALEDICTORY.

On Thursday evening Mr. and ' Mrs Bowden tendered a farewell evening to Mr. and Mrs. J. Ryan on the eve of their departure for the Gisborne district. There was a large number of friends present and a most enjoyable social time was spent. At a suitable juncture Mri R. Goldingham presented Mr. Ryan with a case of solid silver spoons on behalf of the host and hostess and the guests of the evening were toasted with musical honours. Mr. Ryan suitably responded on behalf of his wife and himself and thanked Mr. and Mrs. Bowden for their kindness and those present for their good wishes. The evening was brought to a conclusion with the singing of “Aul Lang Syne.”

Mr. and Mrs. Ryan left for the East Coast yesterday.
