JUNIOR GAME. FOXTON (9) v. AWAHOU NIL. The above junior game was played on the local racecourse on Saturday afternoon, before a good crowd of spectators, when the Foxton juniors won a decisive victory over their heavier opponents, by 9 points to nil. The game was willing throughout, and was played in good spirit. Anderson, one of Foxton’s forwards, had to retire early in the game, with an injured nose, and his place was taken by A. Walls. Carter was also late in taking the field for Foxton. Awahou’s weight helped them in the serums, but the hall came out more often to Foxton, Foxton were unfortunate in not adding two more tries to their score. Foxton attacked. and Awahou forced down. Awahou forwards then changed the venue and Stickles blocked a yellow kick and ttlie blacks forced the play and Foxton accepted a. force. Foxton rushed play to Awahou territory, where Huff took >a shot at goal from a free kick, hut failed. Foxton stormed Awahou’s citadel, and Hartley lost the ball in crossing the line. Play went up and down for a time until Stevenson secured and transferred to Ross, lo Hull', to Williams, who got over in the corner. Huff took the kick, which went- wide. Foxton 3—Awahou nil. Awahou came away with a rush, but Huff and Stevenson got moving, but a wild) pass spoilt the effort. Foxton kept up the attack in black territory and Awahou accepted a force. Ilirini was prominent in blocking Foxton’s aggressive movement, but Ross and Stevenson following " a yellow forward rush worked play to Awahou’s line and a score was narrowly missed in the corner. McDonald cleared with a well-judged line kick and Awahou swept down in Foxton’s (territory, but Stevenson and Royal transferred play to centre and the spell ended without further score.

Foxton opened the second spell with a line passing rush which was checked by Hirini. Awahou followed on and Foxton accepted a force. The yellows now threw the ball about, but the passing was erratic. Through faulty handling Awahou let Foxton forwards through and Hartley got over in the corner. Stevenson failed to pilot the oval over. Foxton G —Awahou nil, Awahou broke away in an attacking movement., but AValls sent them back with a line kick. Hirini saved another Foxton forward onslought with a mark. McDonald and McGregor earned on a black movement, but Stevenson, Ross and Huff carried the play back and Hirini failing to handle, let Foxton through. Through over-anxiousness, Foxton failed to cross, and Awahou forwards pushed their way from the danger zone. Royal secured and transferred to Ross, who crossed in the corner. Huff failed with the kick —Foxton 9 —Awahou nil. Awahou attacked from ;tlie kick out, but the whistle blew with play in the centre. -Mr. Seiascia ably controlled the game. Awahou made the game willing but lacked combination in their efforts. Hirini was their outstanding back. McDonald and McGregor were also prominent. Stickles had a day oil'. The Foxton forwards played well throughout and were always on the ball. Spence, Royal, Stevenson, Ross and Huff were handy throughout the game. Mi'. Sciaseia, who refereed the Foxton-Awahou junior football match on Saturday, had two uncles, three nephews and three cousins playing in the Awahou team. This fact did not raise the suspicion of an unconscious bias iu favour of Awahou, and his decisions were in strict, accordance with the rules. Mr. Seiascia is recognised as one of the best referees in the Horowlienua union. AUSTIN BANNER COMPETITION The Otaki school team journeyed to Foxton on Saturday and suffered defeat at the hands of the home team by 22 points to nil. Foxton ataeked from the start, Hirini finding the line well up. From the line out Graham kicked across to Hirini to H. Gardiner who kicked across to score in a good position. Hirini converted, s—o. Reg Coley started a blue attacking movement passing to Hirini to Matthews who, unfortunately,

knocked on. Foxton forwards gained much ground with dribbling , rush, the blacks saving temporal 1 - a ily. Ilirini secured to run out in the Otaki twenty-five. Foxton kept Otaki on the defensive. The blue forwards were having the best of the loose. Adams coming through to kick into touch in goal, Otaki pressed but the blue backs were safe, gradually transferring play to the Otaki line. From a line out Matthews secured to make a tricky run and score in a good position. Hirini handled' the ball a second time after a free charge had been awarded: Foxton 8, Otaki 0. The blues kept up the attack, good ploy by the backs enabling Hirini to score in a good position. Hirini converted, 13—0. Half time came with Foxton still pressing. After the spell Foxton forwards resumed the attack. Hirini secured from the loose to kick across for B. Coley to race over. Hirini’s kick was too low: 16 —0. Otaki worked upheld, an attempt to goal from a penalty going wide. Otaki worked into the blue twentyfive, but Foxton" forwards packed well to take the ball at their feet upheld. From a line out Adams passed back to Reg Coley, to Hirini, to Matthews, to B. Coley, who scored well out. Hirini failed to convert: 19 —0. Otaki pressed. M. Gardiner, ai full-back, took the ball to make a good run. Graham got the ball at his feet for 11. Gardiner to score iu the corner. Hirini missed a difficult kick: 22 —0. Mr. O’Connor controlled the game. The visitors were afterwards entertained'to morning tea at the school. Mi’. Willmot, headmaster of the Otaki school, expressed his appreciation of the hospitality received and expressed the hope that Otaki would he able to administer as sound a drubbing to the Foxton team, on their own ground. RANFURLY SHIELD MATCH. BUSH OUTCLASSED. At Mastertou on Saturday, Wairarapa had a sweeping victory over Bush in its first shield game, defeating the visitors by 53 points to 3. There was an attendance of about 3000 spectators. Wairarapa were quite the superior team throughout, and gave a first-class exhibition of the game, excelling in fast, open work among the forwards. Bush were willing, but they utterly lacked combination, and in consequence were simply outclassed. They crossed the line only once, and then failed to score, their three points being gained from a penalty. The outstanding performance of the day was that of A. E. Cooke, who scored three tries for Wairarapa and converted four, thus amassing 17 points himself.

Playing on a heavy ground, and harassed by a cold and l violent wind, Wanganui Technical College at Hawera on Saturday, were defeated by New Plymouth Boys’ High School by 13 points to 11.

ilr. Anderson, -lion, secretary of the Te Kawau sub-union informs us that the sub-union’s southern boundary is the No. 1 Himatangi block.

Stickles, the Awahou junior threequarter, played senior for Te Hawaii last year and a request for his transfer as a junior was not entertained by the Te K§,wau union.

On several occasions on Saturday during the Awahou-Foxtou junior game, an official of the Horowhenua Union made some very audible remarks iu .connection with the referee’s rulings. Any official of the union when witnessing a match should not allow his feelings to get beyond the thinking stage.

Awahou seniors did not journey to Otaki on Satiutd'ay, but forfeited to the Otaki team.

The Foxton Football CJub are looking after the social side of their members, who are to be entertained ai a social in the Masonic Hall on Wednesday week.

The Awahou-Foxton third grade match played on No, 1 ground at the racecourse on Satuday was a mud scramble from start to finish. The ground was covered with surface water arid! spoilt the play for both teams. For the winners de Rwider and Broad scored tries, Broad converting one. For Awahou MacDonald scored a try and Cribb kicked a penalty goal. .
