TOWN PLANNING
THE ACT AND REGULATIONS,
Mr. R. B. Hammond, Director of Town Planning, was in Foxton last, night, to attend a special meeting of the Foxton Borough Council to explain to' Councillors the requirements of the Town Planning Act and its regulations.
All Boroughs having a population of over 1,00.0 and cities must prepare a town planning scheme to go before the Board, which has its administration by Ist January,. 1930 and Mr Hammond is at present on a Dominion tour in that connection.
The Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) occupied the chair. Also present wore Crs. Rangiheuea, Ross and Walker and the Town Clerk (Mr W. Trueman). Owing to Mr Hammond arriving late several of the Councillors left before his arrival. The Director first dealt with the Town Planning Regulations and inter passed on to deal with the machinery as embodied in the Act carrying them into operation. Mr Hammond said that it was desirable that municipal bodies should deal with their individual schemes in a broad manner, even if such schemes had to be modified later. The regulations sought to improve residential and business area amenities, traffic streets, factory and zoning areas. Municipal bodies would take into their confidence the landowners so that no undue hardship was imposed. When schemes had been provisionally approved by the Board, the head of which was the Minister of Internal Affairs, public notice would be given and objections heard locally at each centre. When these lmd been disposed of and noted the schemes would be finally approved and sealed and be ready for exccuI ion.
Several questions were asked and a vote of thanks was accorded Mr Hammond on the motion of the Mayr.
