ANNUAL MEETING OF FOXTON

CLUB

The adjourned annual general meeting of members of the local Bowling Club was held in Ross’ rooms last evening, and was well attended. Considerable enthusiasm ivas shown in Club matters, and a very good meeting resulted. The balance-sheet, adopted at the adjourned meeting, was again read, and matters arising out of the j ear’s figures discussed. The election of president brought forth tAVo nominations, those of Messrs R. Bryant and J. M. Thomson. The ballot resulted in the election of Mr Bryant to the position.

Mr Barr proposed a vote of thanks to the retiring president (Mr Pcrreau) for the good AVork he had done during the past year, and for his generosity in many ways, which Avas carried by acclamation. Mr Perreau, in acknowledging the compliment, said he appreciated Mr Barr’s remarks, and although he had done his best while in office, he yet felt that he had not carried out his responsibilities as he would have liked to. He had had a pleasant year of office, and thanked members for their help and consideration.

The question of the number of vice-presidents to be elected was brought forward by Mr Bari’, who suggested that the appointment be restricted to one, instead of throe, as hitherto. It was pointed out that the rules provided for three vice-presidents, but after some discussion it was resolved that the rule be waived, and only one appointment be made, it being agreed that the appointment of only one vice-president would confer a greater honour on the office. The election of vice-presienf result e in Mr M. 11. I\ alkedr being appointed from three nominations, Messrs Walker, Thomson'and duo. Ross. The voting was even as between Messrs Walker and Thomson, and it was agreed to decide the question by lot. Mr Walker returned thanks, and expressed the hope that the Club would experienre a good solid year. Mr Fred Rimmer was elected secretary and treasurer by acclamation. Mr Perrcau eulogised the work of the retiring secretary (Mr J. 11. Downes) who had served the club faithfully for the past two seasons. A vote of - thanks was carried by » acclamation.

Mr DoAvnes suitably acknoAvledged the compliment. Mr F. Woods was appointed green superintendent. The election of live committeemen resulted as follows Messrs DoAvnes, Thomson, Jno. Ross, Nye and Pearson. \ Mr G'. F. Smith Avas re-elected auditor. Delegate to Centre: Mr E. Huntley. . Selectors: Messrs Barr, Huntley and Mattar. Mr Bryant, upon taking the chair, thanked members for conferring the honour of the position of president upon him, and said that from the tone of the meeting he anticipated the Club Avuld experience a very good season. The following neAv members Avere elMted:—Messrs B. Walls, W. Trueman, Rey. Nicholas, R. WarAvick, C. Pritchard, E. Goodman, Mounsey and Adams. The question of admitting “country members” at a reduced fee Avas brought forward by Mr Woods,

who moved that members residing over one mile from the borough boundary be admitted at a fee of £1 Is. After some discussion the motion was agreed to. It was resolved that a general meeting of members be held in the month of September (just prior to opening) for the purpose of bringing members together for the discussion of general topics of interest to bowlers. A motion, of which the required notice had been given, was proposby Mr Thomson, as follows: “That the annual subscription be £2 12s (Jd, reducible to £2 2s if paid before December 31st of each year.” This motion created considerable discussion, and after the question had been well threshed out, was agreed to unanimously. The retiring secretary referred to the growing popularity of the Club s “live-hundred" evenings, which were not only a social success, but were the means of substantially supplementing tiie Club's bunds. In this respect he mentioned the generosity of Mr and Mrs J. M. Thomson in placing their residence at the Club's disposal for these functions, and in rendering other invaluable assistance. Mr Walton proposed that a record of thanks to Mr and Mrs Thomson be placed on the minutes, and that a letter be sent, assuring them of the Club’s appreciation. Carried unanimously. The matter of defining the duties of the selection committee was brought forward by Mr Walton, who contended that that committee should be asked to select all rinks travelling for trophies. This created considerable discussion, the question being debated front several angles, and it was finally decided that the selection committee be empowered to select all rinks for the Triangular Shield, Dixon Cup and Manson and Barr Cup contests, from names placed upon the blackboard by membeis desiring to take part. It was resolved that a box be placed above the telephone in the

Club’s pavilion, members to put hi 3d when using the phone for other than club purposes. A vote of thanks t<> the chair terminated a meeting • Avhich indicated that members arc displaying considerable enthusiasm in their dub’s welfare, which augurs well for the coming season. .ANNUAL MEETING OF OTAKI CLUB. At the annual general meeting of Otaki Bowling Club, held on Friday evening last, it avus reported that there were 37 members on the roll. Mr. H. Freeman avus re-elect-ed president, and Mr I’. H. Rhodes secretary. • After the matter had been dealt Avith at length, it was decided to secede 'from the Wellington Centre and join up with Manawatu, the majority considering that MaiuiAvatu was the logical territory for their club to be attached to.
