MONTHLY MEETING

The usual monthly meeting of the Fox ton Borough Council was held last evening. ROAD FOREMAN'S REPORT.

The road foreman reported that during the month the road staff had been engaged in cleaning drains in Norbiton Road, Russell, Jinks, Putter, Union, Purcell, Baker and Howan Streets and No. 6 Line; patching rats in Avenue and Sandon Roads, Hall. Whyte and Robinson Streets; cutting posts and carting same to Target Reserve?-'grading Avenue Road and Purcell Street and attending to general maintenance work. During the month 75 yards of metal came to hand from the Manawatu County Council and this is being used on boundary road. —Adopted. PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE’S REPORT. The Public Works Committee reported as follows: “That in addition to Avenue Road parking stand, the following parking places be established: A stand for ten cars on the west side of Main Street, from Tong’s shop northwards'; a stand for ten cars on the east side of Main Street, from Parke’s shop southward; and a stand for twelve cars from Chung Wall’s southward. Cars on these three stands to face south on the east side of the street. “That Messrs Moore and Bergin be asked to expedite the matter of Francis Street drain which was referred to them on the 11th April. “That the drain on the south side of Jenks Street be opened up so as to carry the storm water on to the north side through the existing culvert in Jenks Street. “An inspection was made of the Jenks Street drain and various streets recently completed by the firnTof contractors,” The report was adopted. WATERWORKS FOREMAN’S REPORT. • The waterworks foreman reported that during the month one sewer had been laid; two water connections altered and two meters installed. Lupins had been cut on Easton Park and the cattle stop to that reserve altered. Pumping Station: —During the month 932,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 31 amps: — Adopted. CORRESPONDENCE was received and dealt with as follows : From the Director of Town Planning notifying the Council that he would be in Fox ton on Wednesday, June 22nd, and would like to address Councillors on the scheme. — Decided to hold a special meeting at 8 p.m. on June 22nd. From the Acting Chairman of the Public Loans Board asking the Council to furnish a return of any probable loans during the next twelve months. —Received, the Mayor and Councillors expressing the hope that no more loans would be required locally for some time to come. SPRING STREET MATTERS. Cr. Spring asked that a plank bridge be placed across the Spring Street drain to allow pedestrians to cross the'creek dry-shod. He also drew the Council’s attention to the fact that pipes of too small a diameter had been placed in Spring Street drain to cope with the surface water in flood time and this was the cause of water banking up un Cr. Thompson’s property. Both matters were referred to the road foreman for attention. Cr. Lueinsky also brought before the Council’s attention the state of Cook and Futter Streets. There was a lot of surface water lying about on these roads and he was of opinion that they had been graded at the wrong time of the year.—Referred to the Public Works Committee.
