FATAL ACCIDENT.
WOMAN KILLED AND THREE INJURED.
Wellington, Last Night,
A shocking accident occurred this afternoon at the intersections of AYillis, Manners and Boulcdtt Srteets, when a motor car driven by Mr Lewis, accountant and land agent, of 10, Lloyd Street, struck two women crossing Willis Street, and then dashed on to the footpath, knocking down two more women, killing one. The victims were;
Killed. —Miss Theresa Greener (42) of .10, Campbell Street, Wanganui. Injured. —Nurse Rachel Knowles, of Wakefield Street, Johnsonville. Severe Bruises and Shock. —Miss N. Shelton, 285 The Parade, Island Bay. Mrs James Walsh (sister of leceased), of 19 Somerset Avenue. Mr Lewis, in a statement to the police, said that just prior to reaching the footpath crossing, when about to preeeed up Boulcott Street from Willis Street, lie ed down two ladies, and this unnerved him and lie lost control. He endeavoured to stop, but knew little more until the accident had happened. Miss Greener had been dragged underneath the car, which had to be lifted bodily off her. Miss Shelton was conveyed to her home. Miss Knowles was sent to the Public Hospital. Botli are progressing favourably.
