MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: The statutory 7 annual general meeting of the Manawatu County 7 Council was held in Sandon on Thursday 7 , those present being Crs. Barber, Fagan, McKelvie, ‘ Reid, Boyce, Hunt and Pearce. In proposing Cr. Barber as chairman for the ensuing year, Cr. Hunt slated that Cr. Barber had left no stone unturned during his occupancy of the office to further the interests of the council. He had worked hard in connection with the main highways of the county and had been instrumental in bringing about many improvements. Cr. Boyce seconded the motion, stating that the brief term of office which Cr. Barber had enjoyed had shown the council what he was capable of, and they had every confidence in him for the ensuing year. The motion was carried and Cr. Barber expressed himself as being sincerely gratified at the confidence reposed in him and stated that, by a continuation of the good team work of the council, they would get through much work during the coming year. COMMITTEES. The following committees were elected: — Representative on No. t) Highways Board and delegate to the Counties’ Conference. —Cr. Barber. Finance. —Crs. Barber, Fagan, McKelvie and Pearce. Works. —Crs. Fagan, Hunt, Boyce and Pearce. Tramway.—Crs. Hunt, Boyce, McKelvie and Reid. The chairman was appointed a member ex-officio on all committees. The date of the next ordinary meeting of the council was fixed as Tuesday, 7th June, and thereafter the third Wednesday in every month. GENERAL. A tender for metalling the Tangimoana road was accepted. It was decided to strike the following rates: Sandon riding lid in the £l, Mt. Stewart-lid, R.ongotea lid, Awahou lid, Waitohi ljd, Carnarvon 1 3-16 d, Kawa Kawa 1 3-l(3d. . In addition a hospital rate of id in ‘lnc £1 over the whole of the county was decided upon.
