DRINK AT DANCES
WINE MERCHANT FINED.

With the idea that someone was supplying intoxicating liquor to young people attending Christchurch dances, the police set a watch and became suspicious of George Nelson Haxell, a Avine manufacturer.
Haxell was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., Avitb selling tAvo bottles of Avine which did not bear a label Avitb the name and address of the maker, Avitb selling less than tAvo gallons, and keeping his premises open for the sale of liquor wlien they were required to be closed.
It had been found that a number of young people who attended dances had been under the influence of liquor, said Senior-Sergeant Martin. Suspicion rested upon the hotels, and a close Avatch Avas kept. It was found that the wine was being supplied by Haxell, and a purchase was made by Constable Halcow, who Avent to Maxell’s place one Saturday evening. Defendant was lined £lO and costs for selling less than tAvo gallons, £2 and costs for selling Avine in unlabclled bottles, and 20s and costs for selling it after hours.
