HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD.
FIRST MEETING OF YEAR
The May meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board was held in Levin on Tuesday when there were present: The chairman (Mr. G. A. Monk), and Messrs W. E. Barber, W. H. Gunning, A. Seifert, T. G. Vincent, A. J. Petherick, C. Blenkhorn, R. Bryant, and E. Morse. NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED. The Secretary (Mr, Goldsmith) reported the election of Messrs Blenkhom, Morse and Bryant to represent the Levin, Otaki and Foxton Boroughs. The chairman extended a very hearty welcome to' the Board table to the new members in the district's from which they came. TREASURER’S REPORT. The Treasurer reported that the accounts for payment and confirmation totalled £2625. The chief item was £1356, repayment of a debenture of the second £40,000 loan. RECEIPTS FOR APRIL. The receipts for April were as follow, the electricity item including the quarterly accounts which came in very acceptably because of the large quarterly account due to the Department by the Board for current: — Installations and .fittings 1313 10 11 Interest on installations 69 1 4 Consumers’ deposits 8 0 0 Electricity and meter rents 4927 8 9 Penalties 11 12 6 Miscellaneous including rents G 5 12 8 Total for April £6395 6 2 INTEREST AND SINKING FUND. For the information of the members of the Board following is the amount of interest and sinking fund payable during the current year: — 1927 £ May—2nd loan £40,000, debenture 1356 June—-Loan £BO,OOO interest 2200 Aug.—lst loan £40,000, debenture 1356 Aug.—Loan £20,000, debenture 678 Nov. —2nd loan £40,000, debenture 1356 Dec. —Loan £IBO,OOO interest 2200 Dec. —Loan £IBO,OOO sinking fund 800 1928 £ Feb. —Ist loan £40,000, debenture 1356 Feb. —Loan £20,000, debenture 678 Total £11,984 (Shillings and pence omitted). The accounts were passed for payment. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Engineer reported for the month: No. 1 Gang have completed Matai Road Circuit, and are now on Soldiers’ Road, Paraparaumu. They have fitted and erected 48 poles. They have extended and run extra phases at the Soldiers’ Settlement Road, Whirokino, and made alterations at the Boys’ Training Farm. No. 2 gang have been engaged on general ovei’haul of lines at Paraparaumu Beach and made alteration at railway crossing Paraparaumu. No 3 gang have run 6 services, erected 6 poles, and run 38 chains of wire. Patrolled Tokomaru Circuit. Overhauled a number of poles, Shannon-Levin Circuit, and straightened up some poles on Marinoto L.T. line. Electrical fitters have run 12 services, erected 4 poles, run 80 chains of wire; made alterations on Levin-Foxton road to clear telegraph wires. Cut in E.H.T. Matai Road, and 3 railway cottages, Paekakariki, and general maintenance. General. —The Matai Road extension has been livened up and all consumers on that circuit are connected. Details were also given of the workshops and garage work. The Engineer’s report was adopted on the chairman’s motion, and Mr. Smith was granted leave of absence to attend the Engineers’ Conference to be held in Wellington on May 24th. FINANCE COMMITTEE. On the chairman’s motion, seconded by Mr. Vincent, Messrs Seifert, Gunning and the mover, were appointed a Finance Committee.
