MANAWATU-OROUA RIVER BOARD.

ENGINEER TO REPORT ON SECTIONAL WORK. Mr. W. S. Carter presided over a special meeting of the ManawatuOroua River Board held at Palmerston North on Wednesday. There were also present: Messrs H. Barber, A. Seifert, Gower, R. Tanner, J. C. Harrison, H. Akers, D. Buchanan, J. Richardson and the Board’s solicitor, Mr. P. E. Baldwin and the engineer, Mr. F. C. Hay. The meeting, which immediately went into committee, was convened for the purpose of discussing the possibility of proceeding with the “cut” from Opui Bend to the mouth of the Manawatu River, in connection with the general scheme for flood control. At the conclusion of the meeting the following statement was handed to the press for publication:— “The board has had a full discussion on the matter and has come to the decision that the engineer be instructed to prepare a statement giving full information upon each section of the work, to enable the board to consider doing the most important section of the work immediately. “The question will be further dealt with at the next monthly meeting of the board.”
