FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The animal meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held in Ross’s Rooms on Thursday evening, presided over by the President (Mr. D. Christie). Also present were Mesdames A. P. Easton, Barr, McMurray, Heasman, Misses Ross and Speirs and Messrs R. Hornblow, W. Nye, and Perreau. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Tyer, Walton and Peryman. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET.

The annual report as published in our last issue was read.

In moving its adoption the President congratulated the society on its fine position. Two years ago, lie said, the Society had been in grave danger of going into extinction for the want of a Chairman, the then chairman suggesting that the Society should be wound-up. The speaker had at that; meeting moved the meeting adjourn for one week during which time he undertook to find a chairman.' He was unsuccessful, however, and had to take the position himself. He hoped that his action had been justified by the balance-sheet that evening. The fine position the Society was now in lie attributed to (1) the excellent secretary they possessed in Mrs. Moore; (2) the good committee which had worked harmoniously and well; and (3) the added interest evinced by exhibitors. There was no renson why the Society should not go on and improve. They now had the new Town Hall in which to hold their shows and new properties. Mr. Perreau endorsed the President’s remarks but said that he noticed one man had not been included in the encomiums expressed and that was their worthy President. Without him the Society could not exist while with him at the head it. could not fail to prosper. The report and balance-sheet were then adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
