BOOKMAKER’S CLIENTS

NINETEEN MORE FINED

Christchurch, May 19

The revenue derived for the Consolidated Fund from A. V. Whitta, convicted of being a bookmaker, in March, and from his clients, has now reached £1137. Of this amount £SOO came from the fines imposed on Whitta and his assistant, and the remainder has been taken from his clients. To-day 19 more betters, mostly from Otago, were fined by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, for making bets with Whitta. The fines ranged from £ls and costs down to £3 and costs.
