WILD BEASTS RAMPAGE.
COBRA’S AVANDERINGS
LONDON, May 4. Nightmare experiences (says the Daily News) are reported by the crew of a Dutch steamer which has arrived at Sunderland from the East Indies, where a cargo of wild beasts and serpents, destined for America, was taken Oil.
An enormous orang-outang escaped in mid-ocean, chased the chief engineer from the engine-room, and remained in sole possession, brandishing a steel hawser. It resisted the attacks of four officers who were armed with steel mallets, but was finally knocked out with an iron missile. The following day a cobra escaped and quickly cleared the deck. The reptile took possession of the forecastle and the crew ineffectually poured in revolver shots. Finally the cobra slid overboard, and was lost.
