REFEREES FOR SATURDAY. Seniors: Hui Mai v. Awahou, A. McDonald. Juniors: Weraroa v. Fox ton, K. Davies. Hui Mai v. Awahou, H. Hcmi. Thirds: Foxton v. Wanderers, K. Hirini; Weraroa v. Awahou, R. Kingi. JUNIORS. FOXTON (12) v. AWAHOU (9). The above match was played on the racecourse on Saturday, and attracted the majoiity of spectators. Awahou was much the heavier team. In the opening stages tho play was principally among the forwards, and in this connection Foxton more than held their own in the loose rushes. Awahou was awarded a free kick in a handy position, and Stickles piloted the ball over. Awahou 3—Foxton nil. Play then went up and down, Anderson and Scott being prominent in forward rushes. Huff got possession about midfield, short punted, and, following up, secured and scored. Huff failed with the kick. Awahou 3 Foxton 3. Awahou rushed play to Foxton territory, and Stickles scored. McGregor failed with the kick. Awahou 6—Foxton 3. Rankin retired shortly after, and was replaced bv Hartley. Foxton forwards then rushed play to Awahou line, and were within an ace of scoring on two occasions. Scott secured outfield near the line and raced over. Huff successfully piloted the kick. Foxton B—Awahou 6. The score was unaltered at half time. In the opening of the second half, Awahou made it willing, and were awarded a free kick in a good position. Stickles made no mistake with the kick. Awahou 9 Foxton 8. Play was then very willing, and a number of free kicks were awarded against Foxton. Perreau crossed at the corner, but the referee ruled it out. Awahou then rushed play to Foxton terri tory, and attempted to cross. Foxton backs then took a hand, and had Awahou busy defending. Williams attempted to pot a goal, but failed, and Awahou attacked. A combined rush by Foxton forwards and backs brought play to Awahou territory, where Williams potted a goal.' Foxton 12—Awahou 9. From then on play was up and down, with no further score, Foyton thus winning with a margin of 3 points. The game was one pf the fastest witnessed so far this season. Mr P. McGregor refereed. THIRDS. FOXTON (8) v. AWAHOU (Nil). The Awahou Thirds were much heavier than the Foxton pack. The game was fairly open. In the first spell Dunn scored, but the kick failed, and de Ridder got over in the second half, and Broad added, the major points. The game ended Foxton B—Awahouß—Awahou nil. Mr K. Hirini refereed. A rumour is afloat that an official of the Awahou Club intends to protest against Foxton Juniors playing Woods on Saturday. Wjoods’ home town is Foxton, and he plays for Feilding High School. It is the accepted ruling that High School boys can play for a home town team during vacations. McKenzie, of Levin, in playing for Wanderers, is a parallel case. The case of Winiata some years ago is also a further precedent. If a protest is to be made perhaps it would be as well to investigate the boundary limits in connection with certain other players who participated in the junior game. County seniors received their first reverse so far this season, when they were defeated on the Levin Domain on Saturday by Shannon, the score being 12 to 3 in the Reds’ favour , Despite the deadly tackling by the Shannon ba(ss, County’s play, taken right through, failed to come up to expectations, and, particularly in the forwards they were outplayed and outgeneralled. On top of this, the Blue backs eliminated any chances that came their way, by standing too shallow and lobbing their passes, usually allowing an opponent to get up to the man with the ball and down him before he had taken a step. Shannon fielded a very fine pack of forwards. They combined speed with weight, and generally throughout' the game had a distinct edge on the Comity pack. Their fast following up was a feature of their play, and they were quick to turn any mistakes by the opposition to their own account. On attack, the Shannon backs were not impressive, a weakness being apparent at the base of the scrum, however the rain preceding the game caused the ball to become slippery, and this, no doubt, to a great extent, made handling uncertain.
The following will represent Foxton Wednesdayites against Levin, at Levin, to-morrow: — Woods, Anderson, Hornblow, Broad, N. Huff, M. Dunn, B. Small, Coley, Hetta, Honour, A. Wallß,
