OROUA DOWNS
The residents of Oroua Downs and Himatangi held their anuu::! gift evening in aid of All Saints’ Beach Home on Wednesday evening. The response was a most generous one, sacks of potatoes, ami other vegetables, groceries, jam and other household necessaries, in fact, it was a .good lorry load.
The contributions in money were sufficient to purchase a lawn mower and other requisites for the home. During the evening songs were contributed by Messrs Wilton, George, Becconsall and Osborne. Air Becconsall also gave an exhibition of conjuring. Air .1. Cameron and Aliss Emmett won the snot waltzing prize. The cake was won by Aliss Hobbs and. presented to the home. The shooting prize went to Air Osborne, Aliss Sexton, of Taikoren, annexing the ladies prize.
During the evening the Vicar, Rev. IV. 11. Walton, thanked the Oroua Downs folk for their ready help and generosity. The Vicar introduced the Matron (Airs Bain), who in 1 expressing her thanks, said that the people'of the district could not be thanked sufficiently for the lavish way in which they had filled the larder at the home. She also acknowledged two pair of ducks from Air Christensen, which were much enjoyed. Air Christensen was also thanked for choosing the lawnmower for the home.
Supper was handed round by the promoters, after which dancing was indulged in, music being supplied bv Alessrs Burling, Alp, Mill and All's IV. Scott.
