SOCCER.
ST. ANDREWS v. FOXTON. St. Andrews journeyed to Foxton on Saturday to meet the home side. Hinds and Sinclair were outstanding players for Foxton, while Smith piayed a sound game for St. Andrews. ' Foxton kicked off, and immediately attacked through their left wing. Even play followed in which Bartlett was-prominent for St. Andrews. From a centre by Smillie, Bartlett just missed with a good shot. Foxton then forced a corner, which was placed behind. St. Andrews again attacked and Bartlett shot over. Hinds, in the Foxton goal, later made a fine save from Davis. The Saints were now having the best of the game, but the Foxton defence was playing a spoiling game. Smillie at length got away on the right, and his centre went to Bartlett, who had no difficulty in scoring. St. Andrews 1; Foxton 0.
The remainder of the first half was uneventful, except for a good centre from Gibb, which Kennedy headed over the bar. Half-time arrived with the score remaining unaltered. The second spell opened with St. Andrews pressing and Davis was responsible for some good work. His shooting at this stage was splendid, but Hinds in the Foxton goal was in great form, and lefused to be beaten. Sinclair on the Foxton left was also playing a good game, and made several openings for the inside forwards, but their shooting was weak. St. Andrews continued to hold the upper hand, and eventually Ranson beat Hinds with a low drive. Bartlett next struck the crossbar, and both Gibb and Kennedy eame near to scoring. Foxton had a good opportunity of scoring, but shot weakl>. This proved to be their last chance, as shortly afterwards time was called with the score reading: St. Andrews 2; Foxton 0.
