ALLEGED WOMAN BURGLAR.
MRS. .JOHNSTON AGAIN IN COURT. The Wellington Magistrate’s Court was filled to overcrowding yesterday morning when Jane Anne Johnston, a married woman, aged 46, stepped into the dock on a charge of breaking and entering into the residence of Lucy Ellen Man ton, situated at 66 Harbour View Road, Northland, on February 18, and stealing jewellery and other property estimated to be worth £968 13s 6d., belonging to Mrs. Manton. “I ask for a remand until May 11,” said Detective-Sergeant Holmes, who represented the police. “And I apply for bail on behalf of accused,” said Mr. P. W. Jackson. Detective-Sergeant Holmes: If bail be granted, Your Worship, I ask that it be substantial. Accused was on bail on a charge of breaking and entering when she was arrested. A great quantity of the stolen articles in this case has been recovered, but there are some things still missing. There are also two other charges pending against her. Mr. W. G. Riddell, 5.M.,: Very well, I will grant the remand. Accused will be allowed bail in the sum og £l5O, and two sureties of £75 each.
