SHANNON BRIDGE.

A START BEING MADE,

The contractor (Mr. Peacocke) for the new bridge over the Manawatu river, has arrived' in Shannon and on Thursday the first step was taken' towards carrying out the work, when a survey was-made for the laying down of a tram line; says the “Shannon News.” The line is to be laid from (he old bridge site to the new site, over which material in connection with the building of the bridge will be carried. Earth tilling, to be used in the formation of the approaches to the new bridge, will be taken from the point above the old bridge, and will also have to be carried over the tram line. A start is being made to-day to put down the line.
