FIRST DAY AT AWAPUNI.
COMMENDATION’S VICTORY.
The Manawatu Racing Club was favoured with excellent, if cold weather, for the opening of the autumn meeting on Thursday, although. the fact that it was an off day assisted towards a big decrease in the tote figures, £20,253 being registered, as compared with £33,929 for the opening day last year, which was a Wednesday. Woodhey Handicap:—Waienllus 1, Town Bird 2, Manly 3. Time 1 min. 15 2-ssec. Won by half a head.
Kerere Hurdles: —'San Pedro 1, Brigadier Bill 2, Ardatli 3. Time 3min. 15 2-sse<\ Won by half a length. Prince of Wales’s Handicap:— Black Mint 1, Civility 2, Yoma 3. Time limn. 55'sec. Won by a short neck. Te Mahia Handicap: —Cohesion 1, Koauau 2, Capitulation 3. Time linin' 58scc. Won by a length and a half. Nineteetli Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes:—Thaw 1, Gascony 2, Damans 3. Time Imin. 27 l-ssce. Won by a short head. Awapuni Gold Cup: —Commendation 1, Rapine 2, Piuthair 3. Time 2min. 8 2-ssec. Won by a short lengtfi. Telegraph Handicap:—Area 1, Lieimius 2, ’Benzora 3. Won by a neck. Linton Handicap:—Hathor 1. Partaga 2, Pop Off 3. Time lmin. 29sec. Won by a length and a half. TO-DAY’S RESULTS.
The weather is fine for to-day’s meeting with an improved attendance.
