CONCERT AND DANCE

SUCCESSFUL MOUTOA FUNCTION.

A successful concert and fancy dress lance was held in the Moutoa Hall last night, under the auspices of the Hall Committee. The concert programme was provided by Foxton performers. Mr. D. Christie (vice-president of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce) presided and in his opening remarks said the concert was the fulfilment of a promise made some time ago by the Chamber to assist in reducing the debt on the hall and to mark the assistance and co-opera-tion of the Moutoa people in helping Foxton efforts. He congratulated the settlers upon their courage and enterprise in erecting such a fine hall to provide social entertainment for young and old. He was pleased to learn that the hall was now almost free from debt and it was a pleasure for the Foxton folk to assist in liquidating the debt. The Mayor of Foxton (Mr. Perreau) also endorsed the remarks made by Mr. Christie and referred to the community of interest between Moutoa and Foxton.

Those taking part in the concert were Mrs. Yco, Misses Martin (2"), Hoffman, Messrs D. R. Barron, G. F. Smith, J. Iv. and 11. Hornblow, and W. Williams. Miss K. Roore and Mrs. Yeo played the accompaniments. Messrs H. Hornblow and W. Williams kept the audience in a simmer of amusement with their jokes and funnyisms. Little Mary Martin s plaintive singing of “Please give me a penny,” resulted in a number of coins being thrown on the stage. At the conclusion of the concert a„dancc was held and an appetising supper served. Mr. D. Gilbert, chairman of the Hall committee, thanked the Foxton performers for their assistance and they were accorded a, hearty round of applause. Some of the fancy dresses at the dance caused much amusement Mr. McDowell appeared in a wonderful female creation and picture hat, and Mr. Milner’s get-up was a mixture of the cave dweller and modern dude. There were some other amusing and weird costumes also in evidence which carried a good deal of merriment.
