CORRESPONDENCE.
THE ELECTIONS
(To the Editor.)
Sir. —In a recent issue of the Manawatu Herald 'it was reported that I was not standing for the Council this time as I was leaving the district. As the impression has got about that I am leaving for good, I will esteem it a favour if you will kindly publish this, so that that im pression may be removed. I am going to the British Pavements. Ltd., in Wellington,' but 1 expect to return to Foxton in a few months’ time. Knowing that I would have, (if elected) to apply for leave of absence immediately, I considered I would not be doing right in standing for re-election, for in my opinion anyone standing ffir such a position should be prepared to giveall the time that is required to fill the position faithfully.
With the Harbour Board it is a different matter. The meetings are held during week-ends, and I could make my visits home to fit in with these. Further, the interests of the Board will not be neglected by me whilst in Wellington, for I honestly believe I will be able to do more for the port whilst I am there than if I were here.
I quite agree with you, Sir, “that candidates should place their views before the electors,” and if the Council this year places the Town Hall at the disposal of candidates I will be most happy to do this. Thanking you, Sir, for allowing me to make this explanation, —Yours faithfully, R. McMURRAY.
