AN IMPUDENT THEFT.
BY WELL-DRESSED WOMAN,
Auckland, Last Night
A well-dressed woman, aged 38, with a baby in arms, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-day to the theft of a pair of shoes from a Queen Street shop.
She was said to be a married woman, with six children, and living apart from her husband. After stealing the shoes she went back to the shop to change them for another pair. Major Gordon said that if the woman were placed on probation she would take an interest in her, and visit her home.
Detective Cummings: If you do you will see the garments she has there, and you might wonder where she got them from. Mr Hunt, S.M., said that he was inclined to send accused to gaol for a fortnight, but as she had a young family, he would not imprison her. She would be on strict probation of two years.
