ENTERTAINMENTS

“THE BAT.” The special attraction “The Bat,” will screen at the Town Hall tonight only. Over the quiet of Cornelia Van Gorder’s Long Island estate hovers the sinister shadow of “The Bat,” a master criminal, whose feats have baffled the police, and whose calling card is left at the scene of his exploits' in the form of a bat emblem. The robbery of a skyscraper —the looting of a bank —suspicion directed upon a fled cashier, fiance of the Van Gorder niece—and a missing bale of money, form but a part of the groundwork. Thrown in, a killing accomplished in the dark —suspicion running round like a witch’s catkin and rubbing up against the shins of everybody in the cast —and you have an idea of the emotion-back-ing events that set the audience asking throughout, “Who is the Bat?” Against this energetic background the director and the author's have set out a liberal feast of comedy, all for entertainment purposes. The principal roles in this big United Artists release are enacted by Jewel Carmen, Tullio Carminati, Louise Fazenda, Emily Fitzroy, Eddie Gribbon, Andre de Beranger, Robert McKim, Jack Pickford, Arthur Houseman, Lee Shumway, Charles Herzinger and Sojin Kamiyama. Who “The Bat” proves to be takes audiences completely by surprise. The theatre management requests all those who have seen the picture not to divulge the startling denouement to their friends. Prices 1/- and 1/6, children halfprice. To-morrow (Friday), Beatrice Lillie, a London musical comedy star, will be seen in “Exit Smiling,” a delightful comedy drama of life in a touring theatrical ,show. Jack Pickford heads the male cast. Also “Lickpenny Lover” (comedy), and News. Usual Prices. On Saturday another Cappy Rick’s stoiy will head the programme. It is “More Pay Less Work,” by Peter B. Kyne.
