METHODIST CHURCH.
Tiie quarterly meeting of the Fox ton circuit was held on Tuesday evening last, Itev. S. H. D. Peryinan presiding, over a large attendance of members representing Foxton and Shannon. The senior membership was reported as standing at 79, the names of several new members having recently been added to the roll. Thanks to the very successful harvest festival efforts at Fox ton and Shannon, a satisfactory bal-ance-sheet was presented, the circuit debt being reduced by over £9. Satisfaction was expressed at the fact that the recent conference, although it had cut down many of the home mission grants, and cut out some altogether, had kept up the grant to Foxtail circuit of £4O, and even offered £SO if the minimum stipend were paid. The latter offer was declined by the meeting. Reports from the tln-ge Sunday schools were presented and deemed satisi'ac tory. Mr. A. It. Osborne, on resigning the position of circuit steward, was heartily thanked for past services, his resignation being accepted with regret.. Mr. J. Chrystall was voted to the vacant position. Mr. A. H. Hill was appointed agent and reporter at Shannon for the Methodist Times, Mr. L. Bullard occupying a similar position at Foxton.
Lay pastors were appointed as follows: —Shannon: Mesdam'es Hill and Pettit, Foxton: Mrs. H. Osborne. Miss D. Brown as representing the Foxton Sunday school, was heartily welcomed to the meeting. The next meeting is to be held at Shannon on July 12th. After the bendiction had been pronounced the members were most hospitably entertained at supper by Mrs Cowley and other ladies. Mr J. F. Riches (circuit steward) on behalf of the visitors, heartily thanked Mrs. Cowley for her kindness.
