HERRINGTON GOLF CLUB.

OFFICIAL OPENING OF LINKS

The official opening of the Herrington Golf Club’s links took place on Saturday in fine but cold weather until late afternoon when a fairly heavy shower fell. The only visitors present were from Shannon but this was due to the opening day clashing with other club openings. There was a good muster of local players, however. A Canadian foursome competition occupied the greater part of 1 lie afternoon’s play and resulted as follows: —

Mrs. J. Newton and Mr. W. H. Walton 54, v. Mr. J. Newton and Mrs. F. Mason 54. Mr. W. Ross and Miss E. Wanklyn 48, v. Miss Williams and Mr. P. Easton 55. Mrs. Moore and Mr. J. R. Newton 50. v. Miss B. Robinson and Mr. N. A. Ross 43. Mr. J. Murray and Miss Ritchie 62, v. Mr. Cronquest and Miss M. Wanklyn 52. .. Mr. \V. Roach and Mi'. Bergin 45, v. Mr. McMurray and Mr. M'cMurrayjnr., 42. Mr. W. Trueman and Mr. F. Mason 51, v. ]Mr. D. Gilbert and Mr. J. L. Christie 48. Winners: Miss B. Robinson and Mr. N. Ross. At. the conclusion of play the President (Mr. A. P. Easton) welcomed the visitors and presented Miss E. Wanklyn (the winner) with the bronze medal given by the L.G.U. for competition. Mr. Murray returned thanks on behalf of the visitors and cheers were given for the ladies. Afternoon tea was then dispensed hv the ladies. The Club is to lie complimented on the tine state of the links this year. The greens have been thoroughly renovated and give promise of being entirely satisfactory, towards the end of last season the course was rearranged and two new greens made on Mrs. >J. H. Robinson’s property, giving greater length to the round-, 'which is now 4740 yards. "
